Short Ribs or Flaken with Barbeque Sauce

Recipe provided by Marion Weiss of the Hillside Chapter.


Short Ribs or Flanken
1 Onion (diced)
1 tbs. Shortening (softened)
3 tsp. Vinegar
2 tbs. Brown Sugar
1 tbs. Mustard
1 tsp. Salt
1 tbs. Worchester Sauce
1 can Tomato Sauce
1 ½ can Water


Put meat in baking pan covered and start roasting at 350 degrees.

Assemble sauce:

In sauce pan brown diced onions in shortening.

Mix vinegar, brown sugar, mustard, salt and Worchester sauce together. Add in tomato sauce and water.

Add mixture to onions and simmer for 15 minutes.

Stand short ribs up in pan and pour 1/2 of sauce over meat until each piece is covered. Continue roasting for for 30 minutes. Add rest of sauce and continue to cook for about 2 hours.
